i decided to do this as i werent happy with the dress but liked the style and materials, so this would be wore with the waxed crochet and black underneath.

idea behind
i wanted to look into the diana story a little further than just creating a garment from a part of the story so i decided to look into diana mental state - if thats what you call it. anyway she come across as this strong women, this 'goddess' but becomes quite fragile when things don't go her way and doesn't handle them very well such as acteon seeing her in the state of undress. this idea gave me an idea for materials and thats exactly where the paper came from. i decided on paper as its fragile, not waterproof etc, but can look strong and masculine when folded and i liked the idea of the contrasting feelings. this is why i also did the crochet in wax as this did the opposite, it looked feminine and fragile but because of the wax and the multiple crossing of wool became quite strong. i would wear both pieces together as i think they compliment each other.

colour
i used black and white to work with in the beginning as it was easy but the more i looked into colours and why i would use them the more i stuck with them. when making the head piece i did look into making a coloured one or just adding hints but decided against it. i did this as white suggests innocence and purity, where as the black shows dianas darker side. as diana continues throughout the stories to come across as this pure goddess when really she isn't, she actually not that nice! so wearing it on my head and across my body show a shield, a facade of what she wants people to see her as whereas underneath she isn't, also showing that shes not confident in being a woman maybe?

shape
i did a head piece in the end as when diana is bathing she doesn't want to be seen, and when researching when people head are covered there a lot more confident in the way they look so this is why i decided this. i also went for a bikers helmet shape instead of a circle as it again suggests protection. when it came to the crochet piece i wanted a lot more feminine look so followed the lines of the body and emphasising it by pulling it in at areas and stretching it at others

overall im a lot happy with my outcome than before though i wish id come to this idea a little earlier so i could develop it.
