wax and crochet

i started off by putting something id crocheted in wax and moulded it to the plastic mannequin first with the side of the body and then around the head

i dont feel the face mould worked as well and think that the piece of crochet could be used in a different more interesting way

i started at looking at different ways to use this piece in a more architectural way as it was so delicate and feminine but still gave structure. i also liked the way that you could still see the bodys influence through the stretching and shrinking over the body parts. i think it could work as a sculpture by itself

as crochet is so timecomsuming i used an old scarf someone found and decided to experiment with that and it helped getting the forms i wanted but it was dis coloured and just looked manky i also don't like the pattern as much as the shell crochet i had used to begin with

i really like the way it comes off the table and rises up i think the shape of it really works but also the colour as its gentle on the eye
