At its most fundamental level, the Swoosh represents motion and speed. The shape depicts an arc of movement. The word ‘swoosh’ is onomatopoeia for the sound you’d hear as Lebron James or Michael Jordan zips past you en route to a spectacular dunk. In Greek mythology, Nike is the Winged Goddess of Victory. The mythological associations for the brand Nike are flight, victory, and speed. The goddess Nike had the power to fly – and so did Michael Jordan. His signature shoes included the Jordan Flight and the Air Jordans. His most famous Nike poster was known as the ‘Wings’ poster.
i was thinking about using this kind of shoe for the rocking chair but with a shorter back
as i like how it means movement

verner panton
The Relaxer One Rocking Chair by Verner Panton was first released in Germany in 1974 in very limited numbers. Those low production numbers helped create an extremely robust resale market, as demand very much outstripped supply. Enter NORR11, a German-Danish furniture manufacturer, who collaborated with the Panton estate recently to re-release this incredible rocker. Because of the single, sweeping curve - the chair is ergonomically fitted to any body size or posture. But it's really no surprise that the work of Panton is so highly praised (and coveted) - he was one of the top designers to emerge during the "Danish Golden Age". The base is American white oak, and the removable covers are available in top quality fabrics or leather. And here's a clever touch - each chair is individually numbered, so you know you've just bought a future collectable. But not just a shot in the dark - this chair has everything it needs to reach that status: strong history, good design and magnificent comfort. With one luxurious curve, Panton turned a chair into a rocking retreat that you never want to leave. And therein lies the danger.

charles rennie machintosh
Mackintosh employed the bold and simple geometric forms that have now become so identified with his chairs and tables. His work is easily recognisable, with his frequent use of motifs such as the stylised Glasgow rose, seen in so many of his projects, that embodies his pursuit of simplicity, symbolism and abstraction. He used mediums such as glass, lead, metals, wood, ceramics and textiles in his designs for such diverse items as furniture, doors, windows and cutlery. Mackintosh designed churches, a number of the spectacular Cranston tearooms in Glasgow, numerous private homes, schools and offices, as well as interiors and the metalwork, stained glass, textiles and furniture that inhabited his spaces. He believed in furniture that was truly practical and functional and that it should relate intrinsically to the architecture to make a cohesive whole

In the 1830s, Thonet began trying to make furniture out of glued and bent wooden slats. His first success was the Bopparder Schichtholzstuhl (Boppard layerwood chair) in 1836.
Thonet's essential breakthrough was his success in having light, strong wood bent into curved, graceful shapes by forming the wood in hot steam. This enabled him to design entirely novel, elegant, lightweight, durable and comfortable furniture, which appealed strongly to fashion - a complete departure from the heavy, carved designs of the past - and whose aesthetic and functional appeal remains to this day.
The success of the company Thonet GmbH in Frankenberg, Germany, began with the work of master joiner Michael Thonet (1796-1871). Since he founded his first woodworking shop in 1819 in Boppard, the name Thonet has stood for high-quality, innovative and elegant furniture.

rocking motion
She led a study involving 12 volunteers who were asked to nap on a custom-made "experimental hammock" bed that could either stay still or rock gently. All the participants were naturally good sleepers who did not typically nap. Each took two 45-minute afternoon naps, one with the bed stationary and the other with it in motion. At the same time, their brainwaves were monitored by electroencephalogram (EEG) electrodes attached to the scalp.
Here's what they found:
- Every one of the participants fell asleep more quickly during their rocking nap.
- A majority (eight out of 12) said they found the rocking nap "more pleasant" than the nap on the stationary bed.
- During the rocking nap, all of the sleepers moved more quickly from Stage 1 to Stage 2 of their sleep cycle. Stage 2 is where we typically spend half of our sleep time over the course of a night.
- While rocking, sleepers showed significant increases in the types of brain-wave activity that are specifically associated with deeper, more restful and more continuous sleep.
"Swinging" sleep might also improve memory and brain-damage repair, they say.

making a plastic cup hanging chair or even a rocking chair - sense of excitement
round rocking cradle chair by young designers at the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand is a cross between a baby’s cradle, a rocking chair and a bed.
It’s well known that a gentle rocking motion is very relaxing for babies, children and adults alike. In many religions, prayers are said when rocking slightly backwards and forwards. The cradle chair as seen above is a creation inspired by the needs of children with autism and Rhythmic Movement Disorder (RMD). This is a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary, repetitive movements of large muscles groups immediately before and during sleep. Symptoms include body rocking and head rolling. The cradle chair is designed to offer sufferers a comfortable place of rest during RMD episodes.
this would help with my idea of helping people with disabilities and also it would be very interesting for then to touch when on in
