finger painting
i really struggled to begin with, i don't know why i didn't paint like i did with the oil pastels and use that technique but at the start of the lesson i was painting really block like and it just weren't working and i just didn't want to get out of it i think. when i did finally start trying to mix the paints on the paint it started to work a lot better and i'm pretty happy with the outcomes i just wished we had longer so i could complete a painting
oil pastels
one thing i cant stand working with is oil pastels, they just dont do what you want them to do. but i soon realised that if i kept them in my hand instead of putting them back on the easel that they warmers up and started to blend a little better, but i was stick struggling to create secondary colours that didnt just look messy. this was when i tried putting white back into it, the white helped loads but it still just looked patchy and just weren't working how i wanted it to. i decided to create like a skin like barrier over the colours id already put down by using the white, i did this by following the contour lines of the body. but it created like a film over it so the colours weren't as bright which worked a lot better than before. i think next time i use oil pastels i need to develop this style further as its starting to washed out, i think i just need to work back into it more and more until i am happy with it

first lesson of real life drawing, with charcoal
i was quite happy with how my style was developing, but i just couldnt get the arms right. they were either too short or just on back to front - i think thats something to watch in future
also i need to stop drawing the head at the start and put it in at the end as this is where the arm is looking a bit dodgy

first life drawing lesson this year
ive always enjoyed life drawing but this time because we didnt have a real person we used the skeletons and initially i was a bit intimidated by them, there quite detailed which im not use to but once i got back into i was fine, just like riding a bike as they would say!
once we moved on the mark making with the cloths on the skeletons i was feeling quite happy with my work except for the odd hand looking too small and the legs not as good as i wanted them to be.
then we looked at everyone elses work and mine stood out like a sore thumb, i must have interpreted it differently, while i had done medium sized sketches of the whole skeleton so i could get as most into it in the 20 mins we had on most of the drawings others had only done sections using a more bolder mark making
never the less i liked how mine turned out maybe next time ill go a bit more wilder.
